A cozy beach-themed bedroom with white bunk beds, a surfboard, wooden chairs, a side table with a drink, and a light-colored area rug.

A retro beach hideaway with big surf energy.

In the quiet beach town of Manasquan, New Jersey, we turned a 400-square-foot garage into a surfer’s paradise for a family of five. Awash in ocean-inspired hues of mint green and white—reminiscent of the old-school boardwalks along the Jersey Shore dotted with benches and gazebos—the cozy cabana offers relaxing spots for work and play, with an office space, bunk beds for guests, a kitchenette and an indoor-outdoor bar with vintage stools ready for entertaining.

A bright kitchen with white cabinets, a marble countertop, and open shelves displaying bottles, glassware, and decorative items. There is a large pitcher of lemonade, a glass with a drink and strawberries, a green plant in a glass vase, and a small mint green stool.

A bunk bed with white bedding, two pillows, and a green and blue patterned decorative pillow. The bunk bed has a white railing and a wall-mounted green wall sconce with a light green glass glob. The lower bunk has the same sconce above it.
